(Spencer)– More Iowa National Guard soldiers could be headed for duty in Iraq.
The guard says about 600 soldiers from two Iowa units, including one in northwest Iowa, have been alerted for possible active duty. The alerts were issued for 560 members of the First Battalion, 133rd Infantry–and for about 40 members of the First Battalion, 194th Field Artillery which has units in Fort Dodge, Storm Lake, Spencer, Algona and Estherville.
There’s no word yet on when the units will be activated or where they’ll be stationed. Both units were last mobilized three years ago.
