Reward For Fatal Hit & Run Boat Information Increases To 25K

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A reward fund being offered by the Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of the operator of a boat involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision early Friday on West Lake Okoboji has risen to 25-thousand dollars.

51-year-old Michael Brosnahan was killed in the crash and his wife, 50-year-old Jill Brosnahan was injured when the boat they and four other people were aboard was struck from behind by another vessel that fled the scene.

Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says they’ve been following up on several leads, but nothing has panned out so far.

The DNR and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a predominantly white 22-foot Runabout with two red stripes about six to eight inches wide and one foot apart.

The public is being asked to be observant of any boats meeting that description that may not have returned to its normal parking space such as a boat slip or driveway or has recently shown signs of damage on or near the keel. Authorities say the damages may not be extensive based on the fact the boat was able to leave the scene.

Starting out at 7,500-dollars by noon Saturday, the reward fund had quickly grown to 25-thousand dollars by Saturday afternoon.
