(Estherville)– The Estherville city council has two vacancies on it.
Gene Haukoos and Terry Nelson both announced at Monday’s meeting their resigning from the council as they’re moving to a different part of the city.
Haukoos has served on the council since 1996 when he was appointed to fill a vacancy; Nelson was appointed to the council in 2002 following the death of councilman John Sawyer.
The city council Monday opted to fill the vacancies by appointments. Both will then have to run in the November election to remain on the council. The council will meet with interested persons September 6th and make the appointments September 19th. Anyone interested in filling a vacancy should contact city hall.
Five city council seats will be on the ballot in Estherville in November…including the seats held by Haukoos and Nelson…along with Mayor.
