(Spencer)– Progress continues on the rennovation of Highway 71 on the south edge of Spencer. The project is being done to accomodate the construction of a new 160-thousand square foot Menards Store and 70-thousand square foot lumber warehouse. The city is reconstructing the highway to eliminate a curve, replacing it with a four-way stop.
City Engineer Jim Thiese says most of the work right now is going on in a ditch in front of the old K-Mart building. He says they hope to have paving completed by early September.
Meanwhile, Thiese says work continues on the Menard’s site itself with sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water lines installed. He says grading and paving of streets will get underway soon, with the various improvements slated for completion by Labor Day.
Menards plans to open its new store in south Spencer in time for the Christmas shopping season.
