DNR: DCI’s Assistance In Fatal Hit & Run Greatly Appreciated

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Those involved in the ongoing probe into the fatal hit-and-run boat accident early August 12th on West Lake Okoboji say they’re very pleased the Division of Criminal Investigation is now assisting.

Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Lakes Patrol says it will help free up some of his officers, while bringing a new level of expertise to the investigation.

Jim Saunders of the DCI and Department of Public Safety says about a dozen DCI agents are working on the case, along with forensics experts. He says the forensics team has been thoroughly going over the boat that was struck. Saunders says they’re hopeful it will give them some indication on the direction of travel of the suspect boat. He says they will also continue to evaluate the need to have divers come in and search certain areas as the investigation progresses.

DCI agents were busy Friday following up on leads in the case and conducting interviews, but so far officials say there’s nothing new they can report.

The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of whoever’s responsible remains at 25-thousand dollars.

The crash claimed the life of a 50-year-old dentist from Perry–Michael Brosnahan. His wife, 51-year-old Jill, was released from the hospital Thursday.
