(Cylinder)– A two-vehicle crash east of Cylinder Friday has claimed the life of a Sheldon woman.
The Iowa State Patrol says 83-year-old Helen Jongewaard was killed in the crash around 10:15 a.m. Friday about a mile and-a-half east of Cylinder.
Authorities say Jongewaard was eastbound on Highway 18 when she lost control and was struck by an on-coming pickup driven by 59-year-old Julie Eisentrager of Hampton.
Jongewaard was pronounced dead at the scene. Eisentrager was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital where she was treated and released.
Both vehicles were totaled.
Authorities say both women were wearing seatbelts.
