Authorities Continue To Investigate Seized Boat

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– No additional details are being released yet about a boat that was seized late Friday in connection with the investigation into a fatal hit-and-run earlier this month on West Lake Okoboji.

Kevin Baskins of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources tells KUOO news investigators spent the weekend analyzing the seized boat and trying to reconstruct how the collision may have occurred.

Baskins says investigating a boating mishap takes a lot more time and detail than those involving motor vehicles. For example, he says they don’t have skidmarks to help determine which direction the suspect boat was traveling, and some of the evidence may have gone to the bottom of the lake.

In the meantime, details into the investigation, including where the boat that was seized was located, aren’t being released.

No charges or arrests had been made yet as of late this (Mon.) morning.

Baskins says it could be later this week before they may be able to release any additional details.

The crash early August 12th on West Lake Okoboji claimed the life of a Perry dentist, Doctor Michael Brosnahan. His funeral is being held today (Monday) in West Des Moines. Brosnahan’s wife, Jill, was injured and has since been released from the hospital.
