Dickinson Supervisors Hear Arnolds Park Request

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday took no action on a request to participate with the city of Arnolds Park in purchasing some property to reconstruct the intersection of Linden Drive and Highway 71. Mayor Mike Mitchell told the supervisors two properties that would facilitate the improvements are up for sale. He says the city feels it’s proper for the county to participate since it will have a large residential development southeast of Arnolds Park that will contribute to a large increase in traffic through that area.

But one supervisor questions whether if it’s proper for the county to be involved in such an effort. Paul Johnson says rural constituents may not be fond of seeing their taxes increase as the result of the county helping a city buy land to solve some of its traffic problems.

The cost of purchasing the land needed for the project could top a million dollars.
