Dickinson Supervisors Vote To Re-Levy Some Drainage Districts

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some Dickinson county residents…most of them in unincorporated areas…will soon be seeing some increases in drainage district assessments.

The board of supervisors Tuesday voted to re-levy for repairs and maintenance work done since the last re-levy back in 1998. Since then some districts have gone in the whole and had to use money from other districts to finance repairs.

Three districts…one, five and 28…won’t be levied for now due to petitions for work that are pending. The county is waiting for an engineer’s report on the cost of those improvements or repairs before re-levying those districts. In addition, joint districts with adjoining counties also won’t be re-levied at this time.

County Auditor Nancy Reiman says they’ll be reviewing those districts that have stamped warrants against them in a couple of weeks.

In taking the action to re-levy, supervisors indicated their goal is to have a 10 percent balance in a revolving fund from which future improvements or repairs will be financed.
