Dickinson County School Board Election Results

(Undated)– Here’s a rundown on today’s (Tuesday’s) school board elections in Dickinson county.

In the Okoboji District, three people were seeking two open seats. Chris Stein and Mark Hale were the winners. Stein had 336 votes and Hale had 197. Steve Dulin received 172. A measure on the ballot to allow a change in how proceeds from the School Infrastructure Local Option Sales Tax are spent was approved by voters–315 voted yes while only 58 were opposed.

The only other contested race was in the Harris-Lake Park District where two people were running for a District five seat. Shelley Heikens was the winner with 99 votes. The other candidate, Kathy Jacobson, received 18 votes. Gary Johnson was running unopposed for his District three seat, receiving 112 votes.

In the Terril School District, voters overwhelmingly approved a measure allowing the district to use proceeds from the School Infrastructure Local Option Sales Tax other than just for new construction. 39 people voted in favor while only two were opposed. Galen Chicoine and Amy Woodruff were unopposed for their respective seats on the Terril school board. Each received 40 votes.

And in the Spirit Lake School District, incumbent Cliff Garvey was unopposed, receiving all 31 votes that were cast in the district.

Turnout in today’s (Tuesday’s) elections was very light. Countywide, only 580 people showed up at the polls.
