Dickinson County Municipal Election Preview

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– Some major changes will be made to the political landscape in several Dickinson county towns after Tuesday’s municipal elections.

We already know atleast two communities will have new Mayors. In Lake Park, incumbent Ann Ditsworth isn’t seeking re-election and in Okoboji long-time Mayor Bob Schneider is calling it quits.

We also know already that several Dickinson county city councils will have new faces on them. They include Lake Park where only two incumbents have filed and there are three open seats. In Milford, only one person to fill a vacancy created earlier this year by the resignation of Detlef Ball. Eight people, including three incumbents, are running to fill three other open seats.

The Okoboji city council will have atleast one new face on it as only two of the three incumbents are seeking re-election. Spirit Lake will have atleast two new faces on its city council. There are two open seats and neither incumbent, Barb Ricke or Duane Yager, is seeking re-election. Superior will also have atleast one new city council member after Tuesday’s election–there are three open seats and only two incumbents are seeking re-election.

There are contested races in Tuesday’s municipal elections in every town in Dickinson county except Arnolds Park, Wahpeton and West Okoboji.

Several hotly contested races, including the Mayoral race in Spirit Lake, are expected to draw good crowds to the polls.
