(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday expressed no opposition to a proposal by the city of Orleans to voluntarily annex a new subdivision. Vista Del Sol is proposed for some land owned by Jerry Jones northeast of Orleans’ present city limits on the east side of Big Spirit Lake.
The supervisors also heard a request for funding for the law library in the new courthouse. Donne Buel made the request on behalf of the Dickinson County Bar Association. She said the association in the past paid for the existing law library through fees collected on probate matters. Fees from those services went into a pot that was used to fund the library. Now, the state has taken over probate matters and is collecting the money. The supervisors took no action Tuesday. They directed Buel to meet with Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders to get a better idea on a funding level to be requested.
The supervisors also adopted a resolution establishing a tax increment finance district in the Shore Acres area on the northwest side of Big Spirit Lake. They took the action following a public hearing. The vote was four-to-one with Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche casting the no vote.
On another matter, Supervisor Paul Johnson again urged the county to adopt an ordinance regulating the number and placement of billboards. He used the area along Highway 71 between Arnolds Park and Milford as an example. There are currently four billboards in that area. The landowner applied for and was granted permits to put up seven more prior to the city of Milford adopting an ordinance limiting the number and placement of the signs. Johnson will meet Monday with the Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Commission on the matter.
The supervisors also approved some changeorders for the telephone system in the new courthouse; and they canvassed the November 8th Municipal Election results. No major changes were noted.
