(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to allow a conservation easement on the green space area adjacent to the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.
The easement prevents that area from ever being developed in perpetuity. The Messengers of the Healing Winds Foundation has indicated it will make a 500-thousand dollar contribution toward the “Sustain Our Park” campaign in exchange for the easement.
Mike Zenor of the Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated board, formerly the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum board, again emphasized that the land won’t be changing hands.
The easement must still be approved by the Arnolds Park city council before it can be finalized.
In other business, the supervisors approved three additional changeorders for the courthouse totalling 8,401-dollars…bringing the total amount so far up to 257,636-dollars; they approved a motion directing the courthouse architect to look into low impact development components for the parking lot; and they reviewed the budget being proposed for the upcoming fiscal year by the newly-revamped Dickinson County Trails Board. 8,400-dollars is being requested from the county. The supervisors agreed to take the request into consideration during upcoming budget talks.
The supervisors also heard an informal request for additional per-capita funding from representatives of the county’s libraries. Dickinson county currently allocates slightly more than 12-dollars per capita…compared to a statewide average of $12.23. The supervisors took no action on that request as well, opting to consider it further during budget talks.
