Boyd Trial To Get Underway Tuesday In Dickinson Co. District Court

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county courthouse in Spirit Lake will be the scene of a lot of attention this week.

The high-profile trial of a Milford man accused of knowingly spreading the virus that causes AIDS is still scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 29th).

31-year-old Dwayne Boyd will go on trial on four counts of criminal transmission of H-I-V. Boyd has pleaded not guilty to all four counts.

A final pre-trial hearing is set for this (Monday) afternoon.

Boyd was charged in August of this year. The four counts stem from one original complaint filed on August 11th. Spirit Lake police say three additional victims came forward within a week of the first complaint being made public. All three claim they had sexual relations with Boyd and that he never told them he was H-I-V positive.

Criminal transmission of H-I-V is a class “B” felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison on each the four counts, if convicted.

Boyd is being represented in the case by John Sandy…a court appointed attorney from Spirit Lake. The case is being prosecuted by County Attorney Rosalise Olson.
