(Estherville)– And then there were three.
The Emmet county board of supervisors today (Tues.) voted to join Clay and Dickinson counties in the Corridor of Opportunity.
The Corridor has been looking at expanding its boundaries as the result of a new incentive from the state encouraging more of a regional approach to economic development. Multiple counties are being urged to ban together into economic development clusters in order to receive state funding.
Kathy Everett, Executive Director of the Corridor of Opportunity, says having Emmet county on board presents some exciting new opportunities for the Corridor. She says it means the Corridor’s population has just increased by an additional ten thousand people and that the corridor now has additional inventory when it comes to industrial sites and available buildings. She says Emmet county also plays an important role in the corridor in that it houses the headquarters of Iowa Lakes Community College and a number of other major employers.
Everett says most of the cities in Emmet county also appear to be in favor of getting on board with the Corridor. She says they’ll be meeting with each one in the near future. Everett says having the county come on board is a very important first-step.
She adds the Corridor is continuing talks with Buena Vista county in efforts to possibly get that county to join as well.
