Historic Santa’s Workshop Display To Go On Display At Maritime Museum

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– An exhibit that’s very appropriate for the holiday season that’s also an artifact from the old Fun House at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park is about to go on display at the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum.

Scott Pyle of the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum says Chuck Long, who once owned the park, is loaning a mechanized Santa’s workshop display to the museum. It features some elves busy at work in their toy factory.

Pyle says the lighted display is in a display case that was in the Fun House for many years. He says they believe it dates back to atleast the 1950’s.

Pyle adds most of the mechanical parts of the display are operational.

The display is expected to arrive today (Mon.) at the museum. Pyle says it will take atleast a couple of days to clean it up and get it set up. He hopes to have it up by Wednesday.

On a related note, the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum will hold its annual “Merry Time” holiday open house this coming Saturday, December 10th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Parents will be able to bring their children for phots with Santa. The museum and its various displays, including the Santa’s Workshop, will also be open.

The Santa’s Workshop will be on display throughout the winter months.
