Fire Forces Graettinger Family From Home

November 22, 2014

(Graettinger)– Fire Monday evening damaged the home of a Graettinger family.

The Graettinger Fire Department was called to the Charles Hasbrouck residence at 204 South Jackson Avenue just before 6:30 p.m.

Upon arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the lower level of the home. They were able to enter the house and extinguished a fire in the basement.

An investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Graettinger Fire Department determined the fire originated in the basement laundry room…the cause is most likely discarded smoking materials in a garbage can.

The house sustained smoke damage throughout, with fire and heat damage in the basement. Damage estimates could reach 15-thousand dollars.

The Hasbrouck family is staying with family until the home can be repaired and cleaned.

Firefighters had to deal with sub-zero temperatures while battling the blaze. They were on the scene about an hour and-a-half.
