Standoff Lands Spencer Man In Jail

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– An hour-long stand-off at a Spencer trailer park Sunday night ended peacefully with one arrest.

Spencer police were called to the trailer park on 32nd Avenue West around 10:00 p.m. after receiving a report of a domestic assault. A woman living in trailer 14-C told police she and her husband, 37-year-old Michael Marsh, had been fighting and that he was in possession of a firearm.

Officers set up a perimeter around the trailer and were soon able to get Marsh’s wife out of the trailer safely. She told police there was an eight-year-old boy still inside the trailer. By using a public address system and telephone, officers convinced Marsh to exit the trailer. He was arrested without incident. Officers found the boy sleeping in a bedroom unharmed.

During a search of the trailer, officers found several round 22 caliber ammunition and an unloaded 22 caliber rifle.

Marsh was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon…a class “D” felony. He was booked into the Clay county jail on bond of nearly 10 thousand dollars.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol.
