Arnolds Park House Fire Sends Firefighter To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– An early morning fire has destroyed a house in Arnolds Park.

The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department was called to 377 Lake Drive in Arnolds Park shortly before 3:00 this (Saturday) morning. Upon arriving, Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says the structure was pretty much engulfed, with a heavy amount of smoke. The tenant, Matthew Williams, was home at the time the fire was discovered and alerted other occupants of the residence, who were able to get out unharmed.

The Milford Fire Department was called for mutual aid due to the proximity of another building that contained gun powder. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to that structure.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about an hour. They remained on the scene until 7:00 a.m. knocking down hot spots and securing what was left of the structure.

Yungbluth says the department’s efforts were hampered by cold weather, slippery conditions and multiple additions to the residence creating several areas where the fire could hide.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake where he was treated and released.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji firefighters were called back to the scene around 10:30 this (Saturday) morning when neighbors noted that some of the hot spots were starting to flare up. They were on the scene about another hour and-a-half.

There’s no word on a possible cause of the fire.
