Corridor To Travel To Washington, D.C.

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Representatives of the Corridor of Opportunity will be headed to the nation’s capital in early 2006.

Kathy Evert, the Corridor’s Executive Director, says the delegation will be in Washington February 13th through the 16th. She says they’ll be meeting with the northwest Iowa congressional delegation on a number of issues, including a sewer project in Spencer and upgrades to Highway 86 between Highway Nine and the Minnesota stateline. She says they’re in the process of identifying additional issues to bring to lawmakers.

Evert reported on the upcoming trip at Tuesday’s Dickinson county board of supervisors meeting. She was hand to make the agency’s annual request for funding in the upcoming fiscal year. The Corridor is requesting the county contribute 20-thousand dollars a year over four years. Similar requests are being made for Clay and Emmet counties. The supervisors will consider the request during upcoming budget talks.

On a related note, Evert says the Corridor’s board of directors has established a goal of getting more financial support in the future from the private sector. She says the goal is for the Corridor to eventually get atleast 60 percent of its funding from the private sector.

Evert added the Corridor is applying for a significant grant from the state now that three counties are involved in economic development venture. She says they’ll be applying for a three-year grant of up to 175-thousand dollars for marketing. The Corridor is one of five regional groups applying for the funding.
