(Spencer)– Additional details have been released into the investigation of a Spencer man charged with making terroristic threats at his place of employment.
19-year-old William Clinkenbeard of Spencer was arrested over the weekend and remains held in the Clay county jail on a cash only bond of nearly 10-thousand dollars. He was charged with threat of terrorism…a class “D” felony.
A complaint states that Clinkenbeard, who worked at Eaton Corporation in Spencer, had a conversation with a fellow employee in which he allegedly stated he would quote “go Columbine”…unquote…if he lost his job and kids.
Clay County Attorney Mike Houchins says Clinkenbeard recently purchased an assault-type rifle and 80 rounds of ammunition from a local business. Based on that, Houchins says they can’t take Clinkenbeard’s threat lightly.
Houchins added authorities don’t think Clinkenbeard had the weapon with him the day he allegedly made the threat.
Authorities say conflicts over a relationshiop and speculation about drug use may have left Clinkenbeard fearful he was about to lose his job and children. Houchins says the Department of Human Services has had past involvement with the family.
