Lakefield, Mn. Voters To Decide Pool Referendum

November 22, 2014

(Lakefield, Mn.)– Voters in Lakefield, Minnesota will head to the polls in late March to decide the fate of a 900-thousand dollar bond issue to build a new outdoor swimming pool. Total cost of the project is estimated at 1.4 million dollars. Officials say the remainder would come from money already set aside and fundraisers.

Officials say the current pool was built in 1962 and has developed a leak. Over 500-thousand gallons of water was lost last summer due to the problem.

Repairing the leak would require the pool be brought up to code at an estimated cost of 900-thousand dollars. Some say it would be more economical to build a new pool.

If the measure is approved, property taxes on a home valued at 75-thousand dollars would increase an estimated 106-dollars per year for 20 years.

The special election is set for March 30th.
