(Des Moines)– Iowa Workforce Development Thursday released unemployment statistics for the month of January.
The statewide numbers show a decline, going from four and-a-half percent in December to 4.1 percent in January. The national rate was 4.7 percent.
Locally, Dickinson and adjoining counties saw their jobless rates increase significantly. In Dickinson county, the rate went from 4.8 percent in December to 7.9 percent in January. Emmet county also posted an increase…going from 5.6 percent in December to 7.2 percent in January. Clay county’s jobless rate went from four percent in December to 5.4 percent in January. Palo Alto county saw its unemployment increase from 3.8 percent in December to five percent in January; and Osceola county went from 4.4 percent in December to 5.3 percent in January. The increase wasn’t as steep in O’Brien county, which went from 4.2 percent in December to four and-a-half percent in January.
