(Spirit Lake)– Some parts of the region have already experienced severe weather this spring. And there’s sure to be more before the season is over. The National Weather Service and local Emergency Management Coordinators are hoping everyone takes some time next week to review and practice their severe weather procedures.
Mike Ehret of the Dickinson County Emergency Management Office tells KUOO news this coming week (April 3rd through the 7th) is Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state of Iowa.
One of the highlights of the week will be a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday (April 5th). Ehret says a test tornado watch will be issued at 10:00 a.m. for the entire state. That will be followed by a test tornado WARNING at about 10:10 a.m. at which time sirens will sound throughout the county. Ehret encourages residents, schools, businesses and industries to participate in the drill by exercising their procedures at that time. If you don’t already have one, Ehret says you can contact his office and he’ll be more than happy to help you put one together.
