Humane Society Again Urges Spaying/Neutering; Confining Pets

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Officials are again emphasizing the need to make sure your pet is spayed or neutered and kept tied up.

Kate Whitrock of the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa says it’s even more important this time of year, with many animals going into heat.

Whitrock points to an incident Monday in Milford as an example. She says a German Short-Hair Pointer was brought in by Milford police. She says the dog had been running with a female chocolate lab which appeared to have been pregnant. The chocolate lab was hit by a vehicle and died.

Whitrock says there’s a strong likelihood of incidents such as that being avoided if people would get their pets spayed or neutered and kept them confined. She says lose dogs that are in-tact are much more apt to take off this time of year.

Whitrock says Monday’s incident points out the problem. She says it’s not only sad for the people who lost their pet, but for the person who hit it as well.
