Ruthven Man Sentenced On Federal Meth Charge

November 22, 2014

(Sioux City)– A Ruthven man will spend the next three decades behind bars for making and selling meth in northwest Iowa.

43-year-old Jay Todd Hessman was found guilty in November last year by a federal jury in Sioux City of conspiring to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

He was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison this week.

Evidence presented at trial proved Hessman was involved in a meth-making and selling operation between March and May of 2000 in Ruthven and Fort Dodge. A search of his home at 1102 Scott Street in Ruthven turned up meth making materials, including a meth recipe and ether.

Hessman had three prior drug convictions and met one of his co-conspirators in state prison.

Hessman was sentenced to 360 months or 30 years in prison. He’ll be held in the custody of the U-S marshal until he’s transported to a federal prison.
