(Spirit Lake)– State transportation officials say counties who have borrowed ahead on a program that provides funding for certain types of roads known as “farm-to-market” will not be able to get any more money for projects from that fund anytime soon.
The state says the “farm-to-market” account is operating in a deficit right now because of that.
Dickinson is one of many counties in the state that had borrowed ahead. As a result, County Engineer Dan Eckert told the board of supervisors Tuesday the county’s farm-to-market funds have been frozen. Due to that, Eckert says they’ll have to postpone two projects indefinitely. They include a re-surfacing project on County Road A-48 from N-14 east to the Emmet county line; and re-building Peoria Avenue in Spirit Lake between 15th Street and St. Margaret’s Cemetery on the southwest side of Big Spirit Lake.
