Dickinson Supervisors Approve Temporary Deputy; Award Demolition Bids

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday unanimously approved the hiring of a temporary deputy in the Sheriff’s Office.

Supervisors voted to hire current Spirit Lake police officer Josh Roberts to the temporary position for up to 120 days with no benefits beginning Sunday, December 17th.

Sheriff Greg Baloun told the supervisors he’s currently two deputies short, and the hiring of Roberts to the temporary position will help ease the manpower shortage until full-time replacements are found.

The supervisors also awarded bids for the demolition of two of the former Ferguson Manufacturing buildings the county now owns. Valley Excavating was awarded both bids, including one for 4,599-dollars to tear down a quonset building and a bid of 11,998-dollars to demolish a Morton building on the site. The work is to be completed by March 1st.

It was reported that while a trace of asbestos has been detected in some paint on a seam that runs along the roofs of the two buildings, that it wasn’t enough to require abatement.
