(Webb)– No injuries were reported in a three-vehicle chain reaction collision that took place around 4:45 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of Clay County Road B63 near Webb.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 81-year-old Dale Swanson of Ayrshire was eastbound on B63 when he drove into a cloud of smoke from a ditch fire burning along the south side of the road. Swanson then stopped the truck and trailer he was driving due to the poor visibility.
A second vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet truck driven by 64-year-old Larry Buettner of Webb came upon the scene and collided with the back of a trailer being pulled by the vehicle Swanson was driving.
A 2001 Ford pickup driven by 23-year-old Steven Sitzman of Linn Grove then came upon the scene, colliding with the rear of the truck and trailer driven by Buettner.
All three drivers told deputies they couldn’t see anything because of the thick smoke.
Total amount of damage to all the vehicles exceeded 20-thousand dollars.
No charges were filed.
The collision took place around 4:45 p.m.
