(Storm Lake)– A Sioux Rapids woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise from area Wal-Mart store and selling the items on e-bay has been sentenced in Buena Vista County District Court.
32-year-old Jackie Peterson was charged by Storm Lake police with second-degree theft, a class “D” felony. She pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail, ordered to pay 32-thousand dollars in restitution along with 950-dollars in fines, surcharges and court costs. She was also ordered to pay jail restitution and court-appointed attorney fees.
Peterson was charged in January by Spencer police with second-degree theft, a class “D” felony. She’s pleaded guilty to fourth degree theft and will be sentenced JUly 20th.
Peterson was charged by Spirit Lake police with second degree theft. She’s pleaded not guilty to that charge with a pre-trial conference set for July 7th.
A search warrant executed at Peterson’s home turned up more than 1,500-dollars in allegedly stolen merchandise. Police allege Peterson was selling stolen merchandise, primarily cosmetics, though an e-bay account, mostly to an address in India. Wal-Mart officials have identified over 10-thousand dollars in merchandise allegedly stolen from Wal-Marts in Spencer, Storm Lake and Spirit Lake.
