(Spirit Lake)– The speed limit along a portion of Hill Avenue south of the Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake may be about to go up.
Councilman Jerry Harbst brought up the issue at Tuesday’s city council meeting, but no action could be taken because the matter wasn’t listed on the agenda.
It will be on the agenda for the council’s next regular meeting June 23rd.
They’ll consider increasing the limit to 45 miles-per-hour from 36th Street south to the Lutheran Camp road. Currently the speed limit in that area is 35 miles-per-hour. South of the Lutheran Camp it increases to 50.
The council set the 35 mile-per-hour limit a couple of years ago when plans were being made for residential developments in that area. Development hasn’t taken place as expected.
Council members say they could always lower the limit again once development does take place.
