(Milford)– A close call this (Monday) morning in Milford.
Firefighters responded to a vehicle that was on fire at the intersection of 10th Street and Okoboji Avenue, or Highway 71, shortly before 8:00 a.m.
Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says smoke was filling the street and the engine compartment of a 1988 Oldsmobile was fully involved.
The driver pulled over but was unable to get out because the power locks wouldn’t unlock. A bystander suggested to roll the window down and pulled the female driver out.
The woman told authorities she was westbound on 10th Street when she heard a popping sound and then saw smoke coming from under the hood, quickly followed by flames.
Firefighters quickly put out the fire. The driver was checked over on the scene by rescue personnel.
Milford firefighters were on the scene about a half hour.
