Arnolds Park Bar Brawl Results In Three Arrests, Including UNI Football Standout

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A brawl early Tuesday at an Arnolds Park bar has resulted in charges against three people, including a football standout from the University of Northern Iowa.

22-year-old Austin Steichen, a Remsen native, along with his brother, 20-year-old Andrew Steichen, also of Remsen, and 31-year-old Adam Dwyer of Cincinnati, Ohio were arrested in connection with the incident, which Arnolds Park police say took place around 2:00 a.m.

Austin Steichen was charged with willful injury assault, public intoxication, simple assault and disorderly conduct.

His brother Andrew faces the same charges along with underage possession of alcohol and misuse of an I.D. to obtain alcohol illegally.

Dwyer was charged with willful injury assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, simple assault and interference with official acts.

Arnolds Park police say the three men were being asked to leave and that they allegedly assaulted a bar employee who was off-duty at the time, along with his girlfriend. Police say the three suspects continued to kick and punch the man even after he was unconscious. The victim was rushed to Lakes Regional Healthcare.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.

Assault to commit willful injury is a class “C” felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a 10-thousand dollar fine.

Austin Steichen is a starting offensive lineman for the University of Northern Iowa football team. He was a first-team All Missouri Valley Conference selection last season.

Andrew Steichen is a former UNI baseball player.
