Golf Resort Construction To Start Next Year

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– It was announced today (Wed.) construction on the Iowa Great Lakes Golf Resort on the southwest side of Spirit Lake will begin next year.

Project developers also announced that John Deere Golf and the Van Wall Group have entered into an agreement that recognizes the project will be built as a “Landmark Property”. The designation underscores quality of design and construction of the 18-hole championship course and accompanying lifestyle residential community.

The 230-acre public daily-fee golf course is the only Iowa golf course to make the landmark list and is only one of 21 in the world to receive the designation.

Alex and Marty Benskin of Benskin Developers feel the John Deere name and reputation will be a huge asset in attracting golfers and real estate buyers and that it will provide a venue for regional national golf tournaments.

The development will utilize John Deere products and maintenance equipment.

The Iowa Great Lakes Lifestyle Center Golf Resort will occupy 528 acres of land and will include condominiums and patio homes along with commercial, retail and hospitality amenties.

The golf course is being designed by Nicklaus Design, a firm started by golf great Jack Nicklaus. Weitz Golf will construct the course and clubhouse.
