Natural Gas Leak Results In Some Homes Being Evacuated

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Crews have been standing by the scene of a natural gas leak through most of the afternoon (Wed.) in Okoboji.

Details are somewhat sketchy, but KUOO news has learned a crew doing some street work actually hit a high pressure gas line. It happened around 2:00 p.m. on Prospect Street near Okoboji Boats.

Some residents in that area were evacuated as a precaution. They were allowed to return to their homes about an hour and-a-half later.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department stood by as a precaution while crews from Black Hills Energy repaired the line.

Firefighters were on the scene until about 4:30 p.m.
