(Emmetsburg)– A single-vehicle rollover Wednesday evening in Palo Alto county sent four people to the hospital.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says 16-year-old Kelsey Morey of West Bend was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition north in the 4800 block of 535th Avenue when she lost control. The vehicle fishtailed, with the passenger-side tires going into the east ditch. Authorities say as Morey attempted to regain control, the same tires caught on the incline of the ditch, causing the vehicle to roll twice before coming to rest upright in the middle of the road.
Morey and a rear-seat passenger, 16-year-old Rebecca Schmeling of Emmetsburg, were both thrown from the vehicle. They were taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
Two other passengers, 16-year-old Alysia Moser of Rodman and 16-year-old Heather Howard of Mallard were also transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital.
Morey was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to use a seatbelt.
The vehicle was totaled.
The crash took place shortly after 10:00 p.m.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the West Bend Fire Department and First Responders, the Mallard Fire Department, Palo Alto County Ambulance Services and the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Reserves.
