(Milford)– Fire has destroyed a vacant house northwest of Milford.
Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says firefighters from his department were called to the scene two miles west of O’Shuck’s Bait Shop on 210th Street shortly after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
At the time, Carpenter says firefighters weren’t sure whether the structure was occupied, so additional help was summoned from the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department. They later learned the structure was NOT occupied and no lives were in danger.
Carpenter says firefighters mounted a defensive attack on the blaze, during which the exterior of the building collapsed.
He says water had to be hauled to the scene using a tanker truck.
The fire was discovered by a passerby who called 911.
No injuries were reported.
While he didn’t elaborate, Carpenter says the cause of the fire was accidental in nature.
Firefighters were on the scene about three and-a-half hours.
The Milford Fire Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance assisted on the scene.
