(Undated)– Several communities in the Iowa Great Lakes corridor managed to buck a trend when it comes to the latest census numbers.
While most communities in the surrounding area lost population since 2,000, several lakes area cities actually posted gains. Spirit Lake saw the largest increase…at 9.9 percent. Arnolds Park was next at seven and-a-half percent, followed by Okoboji at five percent.
Milford and West Okoboji weren’t as fortunate. They posted slight declines.
Other Dickinson county municipalities, such as Lake Park, Terril and Superior, posted declines as well. The rural area of the county remained nearly steady.
Populations elsewhere in northwest Iowa, including the larger communities such as Spencer, Emmetsburg, Estherville and Storm Lake, all posted declines. That was the case for the majority of towns outside of the lakes corridor mentioned earlier.
