November 22, 2014

(Undated)– Several rounds of thunderstorms during the day Thursday brought torrential rains and pummeled some parts of the region with large hail.

Hail up to four inches in diameter was reported in a portion of O’Brien county, around the Sheldon area, knocking windshields out of vehicles and causing structural and crop damage. There were numerous reports scattered all around the area of hail ranging in size from dimes, to quarters to golf balls.

Rainfall amounts in many easily exceeded two inches…with some areas picking up that much in less than an hour. 2.28 inches fell at the KUOO studios; 2.42 inches was reported on the north side of Okoboji, while 3.97 inches was reported near the Inn. Estherville had 2.9 inches and Jackson, Minnesota had 4.2 inches. 4.5 inches has been reported since Midnight Wednesday west of Milford.
