Spencer Industries Foundation Breaks Ground On New Speculative Building

(Spencer)– Spencer Industries Foundation Thursday broke ground on their sixth speculative building.

The 40,000 square foot building is currently being constructed on a 9.2 are lot in the southwest corner of Spencer’s new Green Industrial Center.

Kathy Evert of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation says the a committee came up with the design of the building after researching various requests that have been for over the past two to three years for spec buildings.

The building is slated for completion in early December. Midstates Builders of Spencer is the general contractor.

The building has a 900-thousand dollar estimated cost and will incorporate some “green” elements as required in the new Green Industrial Center.

The project is a joint venture of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, Corn Belt Power Cooperative, Spencer Municipal Utilities, city of Spencer and several local banks.

Dave Jacobsen, President of Spencer Industries Foundation, says they are actively seeking an employer to purchase the building.

The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation is also actively marketing the building to new and existing companies int he area. The wind energy industry is being specifically targeted for now.
