Suspicious Person Report Results In Evacuation Of Spencer Motel

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—Spencer police say charges are pending in connection with an incident last (Saturday) evening at the AmericInn in south Spencer.

Authorities say it stems from a 911 call the communications center received shortly after 6:00 p.m. stating that a male subject was seen standing outside a storage room at the motel and appeared to be holding a gun.

Upon arriving police saw a man leaving the scene. He was detained by officers. A subsequent search by the Spencer Police Department and the department’s entry team found no weapon.

Staff and guests were evacuated during the search. They were allowed to return shortly before 9:00 p.m.

Spencer police say their investigation continues and charges are pending.

Spencer police were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 unit; the Iowa State Patrol; Spencer Fire Department; Clay County Homeland Security and Spencer Hospital paramedics.
