Dickinson County Offers Incentive To 17 East Okoboji Beach Lot Owners To Hook Onto Sewer

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county is offering a special incentive to encourage the owners of 17 vacant lots in the East Okoobji Beach area to have them stubbed into an Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District sewer main.

The board of supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to offer a 500-dollar stipend to owners who agree to have service extended now, while roads in the area are already torn up for a reconstruction project. The supervisors say they’re offering the incentive so the roads hopefully won’t have to be dug up again anytime soon.

The lots eligible for the stipend were not included in an improvement project back in 1997 in another area of East Okoboji Beach.

Supervisors say funding for the program will likely come out of a tax increment financing bond that’s footing the bill for the East Okoboji Beach project.
