Okoboji Middle School & Student Honored Through Hy-Vee “Smiles For Education”

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Okoboji Middle School is the recipient of a five thousand dollar award and one of its students received a laptop computer Monday as part of Hy-Vee’s “Smiles For Education” program.

Jeff Osborn, Manager of the Spirit Lake Hy-Vee store, presented the awards in a ceremony Monday in front of some sixth grade students at Okoboji Middle School.

The “Smiles For Education” program allows Hy-Vee shoppers to nominate a school and student. Stores are then selected to hold a drawing. The winning school receives five thousand dollars and the student who’s nominated receives a brand new MacBook laptop computer.

Brenna McCabe, a sixth grader at Okoboji Middle School, won the computer. Brenna’s mother nominated Okoboji Middle School in the program.

Okoboji Middle School Principal Ryan Cunningham says they aren’t sure yet how the money will be spent. He says they’ll ask teachers to put together proposals to be evaluated by McCabe and her parents.

Osborn says “Smiles For Education” is Hy-Vee’s way of paying tribute to educators in the communities in which they serve.

Cunningham says the Okoboji Middle School is very grateful to Hy-Vee and thanks them for their contribution to education.
