(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday were presented with another petition pertaining to the Lower Gar Outlet. This one was presented by Phil Petersen, President of the Okoboji Protective Association. It contains 510 signatures and calls on the supervisors and city of Milford to follow recommendations from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
A petition presented on behalf of residents on Lower Gar and East Lake Okoboji was presented to the board of supervisors this past summer with 255 signatures. They do NOT support the need for any additional outflow capacity, but say that if additional capacity is added, that none of the existing boxes or culverts should be removed; instead, it stated any additional capacity should be through culverts or boxes placed with flowlines atleast six inches higher than the present dam.
The supervisors took no action Tuesday on the petition presented by the OPA.
