Collision Involving RIDES Van, Mini-Van Send One Person To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A collision this (Thursday) morning involving a mini-van and a RIDES van near the intersection of Highway 71 and Dam Road near Oak Hill Marina in Arnolds Park sent one person to the hospital.

Arnolds Park police say Elizabeth Leidig of Everly was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan northbound when she lost control. The vehicle then fish-tailed, T-boning the RIDES van being driven by Leon Hansen of Spirit Lake.

Leidig was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Hansen or to a passenger in the RIDES van.

The Mini-van driven by Leidig was totaled; 4,500-dollars in damage was estimated to the RIDES van.

Traffic had to be re-routed around the scene while authorities removed the wreckage.

The collision took place shortly before 8:00 a.m.

Arnolds Park Police Chief Al Krueger says it was snowing at the time and the road was slick. He urges motorists to refresh themselves on winter driving skills.

Arnolds Park police were assisted on the scene by the Okoboji Police Department, Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire and Rescue and Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance.
