Clay County Collision Injures Two Teens

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A collision last Friday in Clay county sent two teens to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 17-year-old Luc Cauthron of Spencer was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Beretta southbound on County Road M-50. Witnesses reported seeing the Cauthron vehicle slow, but not stop for a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 18. It then collided with a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Arnold Franken of Sioux Center who was eastbound on Highway 18.

Cauthron was taken to Spencer Hospital where he was held overnight for observation; a 16-year-old female passenger in his vehicle, who’s name wasn’t released, was life-flighted out. A news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office didn’t mention which hospital she was taken to.

No injuries were reported to Franken.

The vehicle driven by Cauthron was totaled; three thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1991 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Franken.

Authorities say charges are pending in connection with the crash.
