(Spirit Lake)– Voters in the Spirit Lake school district will head to the polls in early February to vote on a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy.
Meeting last week in special session, the school board set February 2nd, 2010 as the date for the election.
If approved, the 65 cents per thousand dollars of valuation levy would be in effect for three years.
School officials say the proceeds would be used solely to upgrade technology. They say laptop computers would be made available to every fifth through 12th grade student with mobile carts for kindergarten through fourth grades. Laptops would also be given to all teachers.
School officials say the initiative would be the first of its kind in the region, focusing on 21st century learning and problem solving. They add the program would also be a tool in helping to promote the district.
We’ll have additional details on the proposal as the date for the election gets closer.
