(Graettinger)– A new program through Upper Des Moines Opportunity is making scholarships and internship funding available to students enrolled in four are colleges.
UDMO Executive Director Ron Ludwig says students at Buena Vista University, Iowa Lakes Community College, Northwest Iowa Community College and Iowa Central Community College are eligible for the assistance.
Students who will be graduating following their spring or summer term in 2010 with the purpose of seeking full-time employment after graduation are eligible to apply.
Funding for the program is coming through the American Recovery and Re-investment Act.
Qualifying students must also meet income guidelines as well as a certain grade point average.
Ludwig says the program is unique in that it partners with local colleges and universities to help students financially through scholarships, as well as when they enter the workforce with financial assistance through internship programs where they can receive hands-on training in the job for which they have been preparing.
