(Spirit Lake)– An announcement earlier this week that the federal government is making additional funding available for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has some who have already been awarded funding through it thinking they can get more. But that isn’t the case.
Laurie Ruuf of the Spirit Lake Upper Des Moines Opportunity office tells KUOO news the additional funding is intended for those who have not yet been enrolled in the program. It is NOT intended to give additional payments to those previously signed up.
Ruuf adds the assistance is a one-time payment ONLY to the utility provider.
It was announced earlier this week that more than 4.8 million dollars in federal money is headed to Iowa for LIHEAP.
