Chain Reaction Crash Sends One Person To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Minor injuries were reported in a three-vehicle chain reaction collision that took place during Monday’s blizzard on Highway 71 in Clay county.

The Iowa State Patrol says 49-year-old Christy Curry, Jr. of Ruthven was southbound on Highway 71 when she collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Craig Lowe of Spencer, who was also southbound at a low rate of speed due to poor visibility. The impact forced Lowe’s vehicle into the rear of another southbound vehicle driven by 80-year-old Wilton Croft of Estherville.

Lowe was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with possible injuries; possible injuries were also reported to Croft, but he didn’t seek immediate treatment. No injuries were reported to Curry, who was cited for failure to have control.

$3,000 in damage was estimated to a 2001 SUV driven by Curry; a 2001 Ford Escape driven by Lowe was totaled; damage to a 2002 Buick LeSabre driven by Croft was estimated at $1,500.

The collision took place shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. Troopers say visibility was zero at the time.
